Watched the recent Xmen movie : Origins. Basically it’s the story of Wolverine/Logan and how he came to be the Canuk he is today.
Boy was this movie a wash. It’s not bad… it’s just .. not amazing. It follows a typical Hollywood formula, ticks off the boxes and leaves you with a feeling that you just watched an HBO special.
Hugh Jackman’s portrayal is …. decent, but uninspired.
The action is weak (sad for an action movie). The FX are poor.
Interestingly, the story telling and naration are NOT bad… decent actually… which brings the movie down! This character is not meant to be a deep brooding character… he is not meant to have a complicated backstory where you explain how he becomes this monster of a “hero”. People just wanna see Wolverine doing what he does best… and what is does isn’t very nice. That is… tabbing people in the face with Adamantium clawed blades sticking out of his fists… <snikt>….
They put efffort into the wrong things… telling a story, building a character, creating a compelling plot…. while failing to do the right things …. over the top action, powerful FX, great choreography….
The cameos of the big dogs everyone wanted… Gambit, Deadpool, even SpeedBall were incredibly short lived.
I’d say this movie is a worthy viewing if you are an X-men / action movie fan…. but it won’t take your breath away…
