So i’ve given up my iphone…. the new 3G iphone is coming out in a month, and wanna sell the old one before the market value drops too much.
I don’t know if i will buy the new Iphone… kinda bored of the design, and not sure if i’m so into touchscreen. as from the old Iphone writeup i did… i’m not too crazy about how limited it is. In July there will be a new Blackberry that i’m more interested in getting. The Blackberry 9000 Bold. More info to follow on that.
So what did i get? I got a Sony W580i. its a typical sony phone… but its a slider phone. Sony doesn’t normally do Slider phones, as this is only the second one they’ve ever done. here’s my take from using it this past week :
PROS :
– Small, lightweight, relatively thin (like Motorola Razr)
– feels solid and sturdy
– expandable memory (memory stick… iphone has NONE)
– Bluetooth connections and stereo feedback are amazing.
– allows ONE CLICK function to connect laptop to phone by bluetooth and use phone as modem
– Sony’s PC Suite software allows browsing the phone by bluetooth or USBand managing the filing system
– Sony’s PC Suite allows managing and using text messaging software all by bluetooth (send text messages through phone by typing on PC keyboard).
– Software is more stable than most sony’s… also faster hardware
– Walkman works well
– Design is stylish… relatively.
– Speedometer senses physical movements in phone. Shaking the phone causes music to shuffle around. can be used to pace your running and workouts.
– Reception is very strong.
NEGATIVES
– Design is bland,…. stylish… but easily boring. Nothing flashy… practical
– Battery life is not predictable. 60% one minute… 20% next minute…
– Music playback drains battery VERY fast.
– Video is limited to Sony proprietary formats. typical.
– ATT has removed the email functionality from this phone (if you can, avoid the ATT branded version!)
– shake control ONLY allows random shuffle of songs. no way to just go next song by shaking the phone… (again ATT brandedphone… the Sony one from Sony itself does allow this).
– No RSS news reader
– phone calls audio is not so amazing.
Conclusion
For the price its a good phone. I knock down the ATT version… but for $29 with a new contract… can’t be beat. might be a good backup phone. Its easy to carry, durable , and gets most jobs done. I personally don’t care for MP3 playing phones though. a good mp3 player will always be better and they make ipods so small now !!!
