So i picked up this little piece as a replacement for a camera i gave to my ex wife… and i would say i’m overall happy with it
Conclusion :
Its a good point and shoot camera. its got a sweet little touchscreen and has some good features. its very fashionable, easy to carry, slim and sexy… and fits in a pocket without making a bulge. Pictures are relatively good… but NOT the best. durability is decent. battery life is pretty good.
Score : 4.25 / 5
Pros :
– Touchscreen technology works well and is pretty easy to navigate
– the screen has a 3″ view! huge! the pictures and playback is clear, crisp, and beautiful!
– The battery is pretty good considering the large screen. without flash i can take about 500 pictures throughout a whole weekend on one charge!
– tiny, compact, and easy to carry
– the motion sensitivity control is good. it eliminates blur and works well… but its NOT the best out there. Canon and Panasonic do a SLIGHTLY better Job. Sony’s is good though.
– The lens is good. carl Zeiss…. nuf said.
– Picture quality is good, and fast focusing. From sliding down the cover to taking the first shot… total of about half a second.
– ISO goes up to 3200! very good for indoor shots. Most competitors barely go up to 1600.
– Very little noise even at high ISO. (read negatives about this)
– Durable.
NEGATIVES
– screen smudges like crazy
– Touchscreen is plastic … not glass. means it can scratch. haven’t done it yet… but i’m sure it will happen.
– butons small due to size, and easy to push the wrong button
– touchscreen SOMETIMES have to push many times to get the button you want to register.
– The flash could be better
– Price. retail is $300. its too much when competitors are selling similar NON touchscreen/uglier cameras for $200. your paying for sony-sexy.
– the way sony handles the ISO noise… is by blurring the pixels! images look like mosaic paintings at 3200ISO… instead of having grain they just get blurred. i guess for indoor random shots its ok.
– SLIGHT vigneting on highlights…. (that purple effect)… but very slight and not really noticeable. most cameras that are point&shoot have this.
NOTE :
The picture below shows the T70 next to its big brother… the T200. the T200 has a 3.5″ screen (basically iphone screen!)… but i wouldn’t recommend it. The T200 is slightly bigger, has a 5x zoom (as opposed to 3x by T70), and costs… $400. Thats NOT why i dnt’ recommend it. I iniitally bought the T200. I barely got through 50 pictures before the battery was dead. its drain is TOO FAST. avoid the T200 and just go for the T70 if you want a cute little point & shoot.
