last night, after a dizzying gym session, where I tried to outrun the sun as it kept burning my tender burned skin…. I went with friends to Octave Rooftop bar (on my list of things to do).
The view is quite amazing. Had dinner at the Bbq place on the 2nd floor first. The octave doesn’t serve actual food… Just snacks. So don’t be hungry when going. It’s on the 45th floor and has a nice view. There’s a good gust of wind going around while you are up there. There’s 3 floors to the Octave, and each one has a different view. The bar, at the top, which is where people socialize , has the best panoramic view.
Afterwards, one of my friends, took me to Pimp and …. Oh I forgot… Another gentleman’s club. If you don’t know , G-clubs (gentleman’s club are like a mix between a Japanese hostess bar, a Korean booking club, and a Vietnamese cafe). Basically you pay for a bottle and a table. Then the bar brings girls that work there, which are dressed sexy, and quite attractive, to come sit and talk and flirt with you and rub and grind you. You can get a bottle for about $100-$200. Or pay a membership… About $300… For 1 year… And get 4-8 bottles … Depending on the venue and type of liquor. As a reference… At the Pimp… $300 will get you 6 bottles of johnny walker black, or 4 bottles of Ciroc. At the time of this writing.
I just went to see the prices. The place was packed like crazy. I’ll go back and see about negotiating a price or membership when it’s slow. Usually Sunday-Wednesday’s are slow. Oh. And the girls don’t’ speak English. Have a Thai with you.
then I said bye to my friends and went off on my own. Oh no wait… I spent about 2 hours over a drink heckling various call girls/ladyboys on WeChat (in most of Southeast Asia, a lot of the call girls operate through WeChat or tinder via discovery services). It’s a good time, because you often get into hilarious conversations about their work and, while ultimately they are looking for a customer… The conversations can often be simply casual and fun….. A great way to learn about the industry and pick up points of where to go meet normal people to party with. Kind of like a pulse to the nightlife of the city…. Through your phone. You can find what areas are busy at that time and whether certain areas are happening and what kind of crowd.
Headed over to Levels. This is … Well… Was an upscale nightclub before…. But now I’d say it’s more like…. Middle class? Basically it tends to get a few working girls, a good amount of locals in the middle class, and a bunch of traveling people in their late 20s and early 30s. Met a very cool South African engineer that has dedicated his life to the study and growth of Cyanobacteria microbes. (LINK). Basically the tree of life. If you aren’t aware, there are numerous studies and research is believed that by 2050 we will have created an anti-aging formula that will keep people amortal indefinitely. I know this sounds like mumbo jumbo… But there’s a LOT of books and research around this topic. Not sure how to explain it simply in a logical way while I’m drinking… But …. These microbes have existed since, what is believed to be the longest known timeline we have… Starting from the tree of life. They are also known to exist in all the universe …. Also… They are fully self healing and self sustaining.basically eternal living organisms. That make up OTHER living organisms. Various science communities are trying to harness this in various ways… And, no matter how crazy you think it is…. Hundreds of billions of $ are being spent in this field. By many countries and science communities.
Anyway. The guy is investing in it and growing cacti to aid in the research. Very charming gentleman. We talked a lot about his travels and his plans in Cambodia. Supposed to have dinner with him Tuesday ? I think.
Had a little Monkey jump on me like crazy. When I was younger, this would be a girl I’d try to sleep with. Drunk, wild, ready for fun. Also, my type. 5′, barely 90 lbs. but…. I’ve grown. When I saw her going wild…I just thought… She’s gonna peel my sunburned skin, puke in my hotel, and likely be a headache. Next. Met a very nice travel agent… Supposed to have dinner with her …. Also Tuesday. Oops.
Headed off to Maxx. It’s an after hours club. Usually…. 80% of the girls there are working girls. Technically, everyone goes, who wants to go after hours. So NORMAL PEOPLE it’s a 50/50 split. But…. There aren’t too many after hour clubs (open till 6 am)…. So the working girls, finishing Go-go bar work… And the various other types that are in the adult industry… Also descend on this place…. So the result is approx. 80% working. Most people are in their 30s here. It’s a decent club. $10 cover and 1 drink included. Networked with two really cool Taiwanese women, whom work in IT. Similar industry as me with the consulting. One lived in London for a long time, the other was from Taiwan fully. Quite fun. Had a long talk about the lifestyle of Thai, various cultural differences, the IT industry in Asia, marriage, divorce, relationships…. Bonded quite well.
the thing I Love about being in a country like Thailand… Or most foreign countries… Is that, being a foreigner you get to network with a small community of OTHER travelers.. That are looking for like minded spirits. So you automatically get a connection going when you meet another middle-upper class, well educated, person. In the States… When you enter a place, and people are high society… It’s hard to network because they are not interested in talking to you as much. Everyone just wants something from others, and if there’s nothing to gain… Good bye. I’d say this is one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned … Over and over again… While traveling. When you are one of 2 foreigners at a bar, in a small town. You automatically get a chance to make a new friend.
