Last night after a gym session, I went to a few clubs. First I went to visit an old friend at a club called sing sing. It had a very Chinese vibe and the entertainment consisted of a DJ spinning while various Thai girls in KISS costumes did the tongue out “Rock on” symbol at each other for hours on end. The cocktails were decent as were the international crowd. Reminds me of a typical decent bar in the states.
Then went off to a gay club. First thing I notice was that it was insanely hot. It’s as if they turned the heat on on purpose so that everyone would swear and rub all over each other. It was packed and it seems that the gay community in Bkk loves to wear shorts a lot. (I didn’t see a single pair of long pants… Except on straights) What’s also interesting is that I don’t see gays in Thailand bein affectionate. Normally they hide it. They don’t hold hands in public or kiss. But in the confines of the gay club, they show their affections. A friend mentioned this is because Thai society, while accepting of gays from a moral standpoint …. Are still uncomfortable with the notion. Even gays themselves, have an almost self shaming shyness around it. Everyone was polite and unlike America, they don’t grab…. Unless you make eye contact , and smile. Or like me… Take off my shirt and start grinding with them.
Then headed off to a hip hop club. (Sugar) Basically a lot of Africans from Nigeria listening to 3 levels of hip hop. There were very few girls there. And the ones that were there …. Seemed more to be there out of curiosity. They didn’t really dress hip-hop-y. And looked like they literally JUST walked in from college to learn about African culture. This was a bit strange, because in most cultures… There’s a subculture that is specifically interested in black guys. I certainly known japan and Korea has it.
Then it was off to home and bed at the wee hours of 6 am.
